Federico Pacchioni

Federico Pacchioni is a scholar, writer, speaker, and facilitator of cultural encounters whose work is animated by a desire to bridge worlds: between Italian culture and contemporary life, scholarship and public engagement, artistic tradition and lived experience, and institutions and the communities they seek to reach. Across cinema, literature, poetry, performance, and the arts, he approaches culture not only as a field of knowledge, but as a mode of encounter—one that gives shape to identity, memory, imagination, and human connection. His work combines intellectual depth with clarity, warmth, and a public-facing sensibility that allows him to engage meaningfully with people across generations, diverse identities, and a wide range of educational, artistic, and civic settings.

He is the author of numerous books and essays on Italian culture and the arts, and his work also extends into translation, documentary work, and interdisciplinary cultural initiatives. Whether in lectures, workshops, screenings, or collaborative projects, he is especially interested in helping audiences encounter culture as a living source of reflection, creativity, and insight. That same commitment to bridging also informs his institutional work: drawing on his experience creating an interdisciplinary institute centered on Italy, contributing to the renewal of the undergraduate academic experience, and serving in academic leadership roles, he can also offer insight to education leaders seeking to innovate the humanities and reimagine foreign language and culture departments for a changing world.

He lives in Southern California and is a Professor of Italian Studies at Chapman University, where is serves as the Founding Director of the Ferrucci Institute for Italian Experience and Research.
